About Joshua Saunders
Joshua Saunders is a Cinematographer and Documentary Filmmaker based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He graduated from the Radio, TV, and Journalism program at the Nova Scotia Community College.
Joshua has worked on a wide variety of projects from documentaries to TV commercials, corporate promos to music videos, and narrative films to TV shows. These projects have given him the opportunity to film in many diverse environments such as high-production studio settings to remote, unpredictable, and hostile locations worldwide. While based in Halifax, Nova Scotia he has also filmed across Canada and in other countries including Ukraine, Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.
A Cinematographer is both an artist and a technician —balancing the creative vision of the project with the technical requirements needed to execute it flawlessly. From pre production, principle photography, to post production, whether shaping light, composing the shot, or leading a crew, we’re all bringing the director’s vision to life on screen.
When it comes to documentary filmmaking, his approach is focused on showcasing character-driven stories that deeply connect the audience with the subjects and their real life experiences. Building a bridge from viewer to subject matter with the motivation to develop a relationship, sometimes, a world away.
